Alpha Trauma Centre was established in 2001. At that stage it functioned as a volunteer service offering counseling to women and children of abuse. Alpha was then situated at the Vereeniging Police Station.

Since 2005, Alpha was functioning in its present format. One Social Worker and two social Auxiliary Workers were appointed.

Towards the end of 2008, Alpha was selected by the Dept. of Community Safety to take responsibility in conjunction with other organizations to run counseling services at the Regional Victim’s Office which was opened in Sharpeville at Itsose.

During November 2010, Alpha was selected by the Dept. of Community Safety to be responsible for administrating the Victim Empowerment Centres at 5 police stations, namely Vereeniging, Sharpeville, Meyerton, Kliprivier and De Deur.

In September 2012 Alpha launched a satellite office in Heidelberg, concentrating on Crime Prevention through programmes of youth and adult diversion as well as community outreaches.
